Inside ABAN’s July Climate Smart Venture Showcase

On 2nd July 2025, we hosted its Climate-Smart Agriculture Venture Showcase, a high-impact session spotlighting three startups with bold solutions for Africa’s most urgent agricultural challenges.

With investor interest rising across the continent, the showcase offered a front-row seat to the future of sustainable agri-tech.

The main focus was on resilience, technology, and local insight.

The first one was about a Solar-Powered Impact by Productive Solar Solutions (PSSK)

Stewart Craine, CFO and Global Sales Lead at PSSK delivered a powerful presentation on how their solar-powered cold storage and irrigation systems are modernizing agro-processing and transforming productivity for smallholder farmers across Africa. By addressing power gaps and reducing post-harvest losses, PSSK is helping small farms scale operations and thrive in increasingly unpredictable climates—one solar-powered innovation at a time.

The second one was on how Fighting Food Waste at Scale by Farm to Feed

Claire van Enk, CEO of Farm to Feed, shared a compelling story of how the tech-enabled startup is tackling food loss while boosting farmer incomes. Born during Kenya’s COVID-19 food crisis in 2020, Farm to Feed started by rescuing surplus produce from 400 smallholder farmers and delivering it to vulnerable communities. Fast forward to today—they’re sourcing up to 15,000 kg of “rescued” fruits and vegetables per week, partnering with thousands of farmers. With the help of a digitally-enabled e-commerce platform and support from FSD Africa’s Catalyst Fund, Farm to Feed has:

Saved over 920,000 kg of produce

Avoided more than 1,000 tonnes of CO₂

Increased farmer incomes by 41%

It’s not just a startup but a systems solution to one of Africa’s most pressing agricultural inefficiencies.

The third one was Insuring the Future by Vault by Riwe

Chigozirim Israel, Founder of Vault by Riwe, rounded off the showcase by highlighting an often overlooked crisis, Africa’s agricultural insurance gap. Today, 97% of farmers across the continent lack insurance coverage against climate-related risks. Vault by Riwe is changing that with a tech-driven approach to digitising agri-value chains and delivering accessible risk management tools. Already scaling from Nigeria to Kenya and beyond, the startup is building climate resilience where it’s needed most.

This showcase was more than just a pitch session and a great testament to what’s possible when capital meets purpose and innovation meets urgency.
